Leave a Legacy
Planned gifts are donations to the Helen Matthes Library’s Endowment Fund through an individual’s financial and estate plans. These gifts can help support the library’s long-term mission of providing public library service to Effingham residents. A planned gift can also benefit the donor through tax benefits.
One of the most simple and popular ways to make a planned gift is to give through your will or trust. You can make a bequest to the Helen Matthes Library’s Endowment Fund (which is held by the Effingham County Community Foundation) by adding the following language to your will:
“I bequeath (dollar amount, percentage of residue of estate or description of property) to the Effingham County Community Foundation, a non-for-profit charitable organization located in Effingham, Illinois to benefit the Helen Matthes Library Endowment Fund.”
Every individual’s financial situation is unique, so we recommend that you consult an attorney or financial adviser in planning a gift to the Helen Matthes Library. With your tax-deductible donation, the Helen Matthes Library can continue to provide materials and services that the citizens of Effingham rely on. Your donation can go to support a specific program, materials, or general operations. Just print our donation form and mail it with your donation today! Or make an online contribution.
Give to Our Endowment Fund
In partnership with the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation, the Helen Matthes Library has established an endowment fund. This is a permanent fund that, once mature, will provide perpetual operating funds for the library. The partnership with the ECCF allows the library to protect funds for the future, to gain greater visibility with a wider donor base, and to realize the advantages of broader investment management. To give to the endowment, just check the “Endowment Fund” box on the donation form and mail it today!

Memorials

Donate Books and Other Materials
Give your gently used books, CDs, and videos to the Helen Matthes Library for inclusion in the library’s collection or to sell in book sales. The library builds its collection with donated materials and can also purchase books in needed areas with book sale proceeds. Click here to learn more about our materials donation policy.
Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library are the used book sale arm of the library. Donated books and materials that cannot be used in the library’s collection are given to the Friends to sell. Proceeds from book sales go towards the purchase of new materials for the library. The Friends are looking for new leadership.
